brian tennessee claflin, aka prix, was a radical and fiery figure who worked on the intersecting fringes of berlins art and nightlife scenes since he moved there in 2006 up until his tragic death in 2014 at the age of 33. he ran the notorious sunday soirée pork at ficken3000, and left behind a small but very powerful body of art, developing a cult following of friends, family, and fans in a brief but intense period of frenetic activity. between 2009 and 2013, brian and his friend, the american cum berlin musician and producer snax, produced music and sound collages. all these productions met somewhere at the intersection of dance, voodoo, bitchiness and punk and several were used for brians performance pieces. the brian tennessee claflin foundation and snaxs random records are very proud to finally release two tracks from these sessions, as well as remixes, digital and as vinyl ep, in a limited edition of 500 hand-numbered copies.

brainwaltzera debuts on film. the anonymous producer, whose work has has already received online approval from legendary british idm auteur aphex twin, offers up an extended ep for the berlin based imprint. in 2015 a soundcloud profile under the name user18081971 - now identified as belonging to richard d. james, commented on curious brainwaltzera upload quilat spring 1 outtake. the move prompted speculation as to who exactly is behind the music. exquisitely produced and executed in such fine fashion so as to decry pure imitation - there’s plenty to theorise here. regardless of their true creator - which will undoubtedly remain a secret for the time being, the compositions on film006 are of similarly high calibre. varied in approach and marrying both electronic & acoustic elements with ease, the six tracks that comprise the record range from yearning ambient segues and dreamy down tempo grooves to otherworldly krautrock and more direct, dance floor fare - but remain bound tight as a cohesive and functional body of work by a glorious, arcane musicality. whether weaving soft electronic tones in and amongst snappy breaks or detuned drum-machine strikes, the artist’s ear for acoustic harmony is perhaps the pervading theme across the six tracks that make up the aecoba ep, marking it out as an excellent addition to the film labels growing catalogue

afrika bambaataa, rapper, producer, dj from the south bronx, new york. afrika bambaataa is one of the originators of breakbeat djing and is respectfully known as the godfather of zulu nation and amen ra of hip hop culture. in 2007 has been nominated for induction into the rock hall of fame and in 2008 he has been honored by the bronx museum of arts. afrika bambaataa’s long career is pointed by many hits and masterpieces such as reckless, unity, just get up and dance and pupunanny. countless collaborations with artists such as ub40, james brown, boy george, leftfield just to name few of them. afrika bambaataa has recorded with many labels from tommy boy to capitol records and profile but it is with the italian label dfc (expanded music) that he has releases most of his recordings. bring it up is the new release on dfc label produced by dj/producer paul carpenter. this release includes three versions in big room/edm style along with a mega-mix and a full acapella collection of all previous recordings released by bambaataa on dfc label. two lyrics videos come to support the release.

holic trax off shoot monoklo hits a third firing release now with a new ep from verrina & ventura. verrina & ventura are an italian pair who make fresh house and techno sounds and run the all inn, only 300 and howl labels. they are busy people who put out a lot of music and here serve up some brilliantly unhinged sounds for this darker, more club focussed series. up first, metaluna is a freaky track with shimmering voices and prickly, ticking percussion all underpinned by warm belches of sub-bass. it s a late night cut with plenty of unhinged atmosphere in its glitchy grooves. ork is less kinetic and more settled in a bulky, heavyweight groove. scraping perc and icy hi hats bristle and brim as muted synth stabs bring some colour and soul to the party. the deep and delicious dhrawn has big techno hi hats and more glitching, patchy machine sounds all run through with warming chords. trilling vocals go off in the distance and the whole thing manages to be emotive and human as well as devastatingly direct and dancefloor orientated. last of all, nihil is another visceral track with industrial synths, scurrying bass and sliding drums that makes you want to jerk your body. this is a brilliantly off balance ep full of arresting and inventive grooves aimed squarely at the floor

informationstechno was released on cassette in 2014 via zeon light and it was nominated for best swedish dance album of the year at manifestgalan 2015. during 2015 the band received attention from swedish radio p2 and p3 and performed a series of gigs at home in stockholm. the second album informellt was released on lamour 2015 and a remix album called reformellt released early 2016. motormännen make information techno infused with an air of swedish nostalgia through a filter of retro-futuristic skepticism. the music is packed with minimal acid loops and samples with excerpts from swedish politicians, documentaries and christer glenning, reflecting on times when the cold war and the traditional welfare state were dissolving. inhibitions were relaxed and new, foreign influences crept into the body of society and the old information monopolies. motormännen s tracks are visually enhanced by messages from pictures and videos from the 1970s and 80s.

arbouretum has been called “the best of the millennial classic rock bands, a guitarfuzzed powerhouse.” the band, founded by guitarist and vocalist dave heumann, effortlessly weaves its melodies and guitar solos with often hypnotic rhythms of bassist corey allender and drummer brian carey around the deliberate keyboard of matthew pierce to lift the vocals. the results are a full sounds delivered with a striking sense of intimacy. throughout their time together, the baltimore-based band have been praised for their ability to weave elaborate vocal lines, and guitar solos that often unravel into extended improvisation, but never with as much fnesse as on song of the rose. in less practiced hands, these ideas could easily fall into contrivance, but on song of the rose, arbouretum use these elements to perfect their craft of storytelling in song, both lyrically and sonically.
